It's Christmas time!!!
I've been super busy with the holidays. I was privileged enough to work on Thanksgiving, but that did allow me to be off on Black Friday, where I spent way too much money.
Being in our first home together Dusty and I really wanted to fix our first Thanksgiving dinner in our new home. So we did just that, except we cooked out on Saturday, this way we could have some family over and watch the Iron bowl (this is the annual football game between Auburn and Alabama).
So I woke up early that Saturday and made a grocery store run, before returning home to clean the house from top to bottom. Dusty stayed in bd till breakfast, then he spent all day cleaning outside and doing yard work.
Once the house was spick and span, we started on the food. I put the turkey that I had marinated overnight in the oven and started working on the ham (both recipes came from Pinterest). Dusty took it upon himself to fix the dressing, which was delicious but a tidbit dry....he forgot to add the cream of chicken. I also cooked some turnip greens, that I had picked a few days before from my papa's garden. The greens were paired perfectly with some purple-hull peas from my parents' garden and some of Dusty's awesome cornbread.
So while I prepared and cooked the majority of the food, everybody else watched the game. I got to hear it from the kitchen. But this is the life of the hostess, is it not?
Anyways, dinner was great, my team won the game in the last second, on a missed field goal return (War Eagle!) and life was good.
The following Monday, I bought almost all my Christmas gifts on Amazon. Thank The Lord for Cyber Monday. Now it's just a matter of waiting on them to arrive. Over half of them have made it to my safely already.
But now it's time to get healthy again before stuffing my fat self over Christmas holidays. Some friends of mine at work have recently turned me on to food documentaries. There is so much you can learn. The first one Dusty and I watched was Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead. It was about two men's journey to lose weight, get healthier, and not depend so much on medicine, by changing their diets. They both started juicing fasts, which cleaned out their bodies and allowed them to reboot their systems. My husband isn't crazy about the idea, but he said he is willing to try a juicing fast with me next week. In fact, he made me a juice last night to take to work, it tasted okay, except for he put too much cucumber and not enough apples in it. I think it will just take some practice when making up our own recipes.
Today I watched a new documentary called Forks Over Knives. It was about the research of two doctors and a whole foods, plant based diet. With this diet you eat mostly plants, and try to limit or stay away from meat, dairy, eggs, and processed or refined foods, like sugar. The research was very enlightening. I love my fruits and vegetables, but I could use more of them. So I decided that tomorrow I will go to the local whole foods store, to see what they have to offer.
Hopefully in the end, I, as well as my husband, will form a healthy diet with healthy habits.
Stay warm, stay healthy, and stay safe!
